Day 1

Mount Kilimanjaro Machame Route

Distance: ~11 kmTrekking Time: 5-7 hours Habitat: Montane/Rainforest Accommodation: Machame Camp (tented) Hotel Pickup: As a part of your tour you will be picked from the hotel in Arusha with an early start for Machame Gate which is around a 2-3 hour journey from the city.Registration: Make sure you first register at the gate where you can meet the guides and porters to adjust the equipment before embarking towards a forested area.Rainforest Trek: The pathway steepens gradually and trekkers encounter a lush rainforest surrounded by colorful birds, monkeys, and ancient trees heavily wrapped in moss, Arrival at Machame Camp: 2,835 meters tents are pitched and visitors are provided a warm dinner.

Day 2

Camp Machame (2835m) – Camp Shira (3750m)

Distance: ~ 5 km Time Trekking: 4 – 6 hours Habitat: Moorland / Heath Accommodation: Shira Camp (Tents) Early Start: Following a breakfast aid, trek from the rainforest into the heath as well as moorland zone.Steeper Trails: The Kibo peak comes into clear sight as the trail grows steeper.Shira Ridge & Plateau: While fewer trees are present on the plateau, more sturdy vegetation covers the wider Shira Ridge.Overnight at Shira Camp: After relaxing with a hot meal, Mount Meru and the valleys that surround it can be seen so go put up camp at 3750m.

Day 3

Camp Shira (3750m) – Lava Tower (4600m) - Camp Barranco (3900m)

Distance: ~ 10 km Time Trekking: 6 – 8 hours Habitat: Desert Semi Alpine Accommodation: Barranco Camp (Tents) Goal: Focus on acclimatization: While Going from camp Shira to Barranco camp (3900m), Shira is at 3750m while Lava Tower is at 4600m: for altitude adaptation, this trail is necessary.The Western breach as well as Kibo peak can be seen while crossing the semi desert rocky terrain, so enjoy the views.Lunch at Lava Tower: Rest at the large volcanic rock formation Lava Tower and eat lunch.Descent to Barranco Camp: The descent provides an opportunity to take in the views while also helping with acclimatization, getting you ready for the higher altitudes to come.

Day 4

Barranco Camp (3,900m) – Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Distance: ~6 km Trekking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert & Barranco Wall Accommodation: Karanga Camp (tented) Barranco Wall: Regard the Barranco Wall as an early morning ‘warm-up’—a 300 meter scramble that will prepare you for the rest of the valley views.Intermittent Ascents & Descents: Today offers excellent acclimatization opportunities while climbing through glacial valleys and ridges. The route may be challenging, but you will surely be rewarded.Arrival at Karanga Camp: Located in a wide valley at altitude of almost 4,000 meters, relax with a warm meal and enjoy the views. It is always nice after a tiring day like. To complement the views, make sure you are set for the next stage.

Day 5

Karanga Camp (3,995m) – Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Distance: ~4 km Trekking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Accommodation: Barafu Camp (tented) Gradual Ascend: Push yourself half way. The trek across the alpine desert terrain to Barafu Camp is not steep, so there is modest altitude gain. It allows for better acclimatization.Panoramic Views: With increased altitude comes epic views of Mawenzi Peak as well as the South Eastern plains.Summit Preparation: Arrive at Barafu Camp early afternoon. Rest is key during this time, which is why it would be ideal to have some food and then take a nap right after.

Day 6

Barafu Camp (4,673m) – Uhuru Peak (5,896m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Distance: ~5 km ascent, ~12 km descent Trekking Time: 6-8 hours to climb to the summit, while 5-6 hours to descend to Mweka Camp Habitat: Arctic/Glacial at Summit; Alpine Desert & Rainforest on Descent Accommodation: Mweka Camp (tented) Multi-pitch Start: Enjoy fusion and polish jazz as you prepare for the sturdy trek that begins at the crack of dawn. Your guide will lead you through steep scree, aiming to reach Barafu Camp by 10 am.Towards Uhuru Peak (5,896m): You set out for the summit before dawn. Upon reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m), the first major milestone on the crater rim, embrace the blushing African sunrise over the worlds tallest mountain.Barafu Camp and Mweka’s Steep Camp Descent: Achievements’ such as these deserve celebration and bragging rights, so be sure to take photos for posterity. Savor the moment as you descend back down to Barafu for brunch. This steep Mweka camp descent is both challenging and shorter in distance.

Day 7

Mweka Camp (3,100m) – Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Arusha

Following breakfast at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, drop 2,000 feet (610 meters) into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day wildlife safari. This caldera, which spans 304 square kilometers, is the world’s largest one that has not been flooded or broken into. It is the home for over 20,000 mammals such as lions, elephants, buffalo, and rare black rhinos found near swamps, while leopards are spotted at the rim. Herds of wildebeests and zebras graze on lush grass alongside flamingos that can be seen on Lake Magadi. As your guide tells you its volcanic history, enjoy a picnic lunch by a hippo pool. After dinner, retreat to the lodge while enjoying unrivaled views of animal concentrations and panoramic vistas of this natural paradise.
